For this composition, Sara Badr Schmidt was inspired by a photograph she took of a beach, capturing the horizon in three almost abstract geometric bands: the sky, the sea and the sand. This timeless, minimalist image gave rise to The Beach, a modular textile work that invites you to recompose your interior landscape.
The Beach is made up of three removable and interchangeable colour fields, so you can rearrange the whole to suit your mood and space. Each part, made from a different material, wool, silk and banana fibre, interacts with the light in a unique way, changing with the passing hours.
The subtle sheen of the silk evokes the transparency and shimmer of water, while the mattness of the wool is reminiscent of the softness of sand. Banana fibre captures and diffuses light with a changing texture, echoing the evanescence of the sky and the infinite variations of the atmosphere. The Beach is an ode to nature and movement, a textile landscape to be recomposed as the mood takes you.
