We left home… but what is home / Polyphony, Beirut

Fragmenta, Beirut

September 2025

Fragmenta project bridges the realms of sustainability and contemporary creations by inviting both artists and designers, to give new life to marble archives and fragments, transforming what was once discarded into objects of artistic and functional value.

The series Polyphony is a meditation on the memory of those who belong to more than one place, those who, over time, have assembled a collage of homes that they carry with them, like a snail carries its shell.

We carry within us fragments of life: the colors of skies and seas, the shifting light of familiar landscapes, the smell of cooking, of dampness and dryness, the sounds of creaking wood, distant voices, birdsong, or sudden silence.

Like a set of instruments tuning together to create a single composition, the various places that inhabit us together with the sensations they hold, interweave to form a textured patchwork in which each one may recognize their own idea of home.

Each of the four marble houses symbolizes one of our many ‘homes’, whether physical, emotional, or imagined. These come together in a fifth house: a composite structure shaped by all the others, forming a singular, deeply personal vision of what it means to belong.
